LONE ŠERFIG / LONE SCHERFIG
Lone Scherfig (born in 1959 in Copenhagen) is a Danish director, writer and producer who has been involved with the Dogme 95 film movement, which espouses a form of cinéma vérité that eschews special effects and glitzy treatment of its subjects. She graduated from the Danish Film School in 1984. In her native Denmark, she began her career directing award-winning commercials and television dramas. She has been widely critically acclaimed for several of her films such as: her first feature Kaj's fodselsdag (The Birthday Trip, 1990), her second feature - Nar mor kommer hjem (On Our Own, 1998), the film Italiensk for begyndere (Italian for Beginners, 2000), which has brought her recognition from prestigious film festivals and Hollywood alike, her first English-language film Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself (2002), for which she received multiple awards, An Education (2009), which was offered the most recognition. In 2019 Scherfig shot the film The Kindness of Strangers.
