Jasna, a Croatian ex-pat, returns to her hometown to take care of her dying mother. But even when lying bedridden, her mother's immobile body still radiates daunting authority over those who surround her. As days go by, Jasna gets tangled in the web of grudges that she was desperately trying to escape. Will she finally confront her mother or lose herself in her smothering embrace?

Jure Pavlović (1985) graduated directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, Croatia. He took part in various international workshops like Berlinale Talents, Sarajevo Talent Campus, etc. His short films were screened and awarded on numerous international festivals such as Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival. His short film Picnic won the European Film Academy Award (EFA) for the Best European short film in 2015. Mater is his feature debut.
Without going into finer detail, mother daughter conflict hinges on repressed feelings of the past, but Pavlovic keeps his distance, leaving the ending open.
